Turning the exciting world of fashion on its head,
DYSFASHIONAL invites some of the leading contemporary
designers to create physical expressions of the concepts behind their
collections. Through the eclectic media of film, collage, performance,
sculpture, installation and music, DYSFASHIONAL
presents a unique insight into the imaginative worlds of contemporary designers
such as Hussein Chalayan, Martin Margiela, Antonio Marras, Bless and Raff
Simons. Staged like a construction site, the exhibition explores complex issues
of identity, presenting the viewer with the plural expressions that inform the
backdrop of the fashion world - the setting in which fantasy becomes
reality.
Luca Marchetti and Emanuele Quinz, curators of the exhibition commented:
“DYSFASHIONAL was conceived as a site where the exhibition space becomes an
experimental space, an exploration ground for both the artists and visitors. As
a fashion exhibition which does not exhibit clothing,
DYSFASHIONAL shows that fashion is, beyond the
objects that materialize it, an unstable state of sensibility”.
Specially to celebrate the exhibitions arrival in Moscow, Garage is pleased to
present a specially designed installation from Gaspard Yurkievich and two new
objects from the Russian fashion-duo Nina Donis and Georgian-born, London-based
designer David Koma. These specially commissioned pieces will help visitors
consider Moscow’s place in the world of art and fashion, as the producer of
Dysfashional, Oxana Bondarenko stated:
"DYSFASHIONAL is not only the barometer of the latest
tendencies at the crossroads of fashion and art, but also highlights the bridge
between Paris and Moscow."
