Today, the redirection of utopian expectations from the past is increasingly
apparent. Compared with the early days of the avant-garde, there has been a
shift in the social imagination and self-awareness of contemporary art. The
past is increasingly seen as a ‘former future’, and the present as a ‘future
past’. Does this mark only a moment in the on-going progress of development or
a tectonic shift in culture? Should contemporary art look towards a lost
future? These questions will be raised by Stanislav Shuripa and will be
discussed by the artists of Futurologia and Russian Utopias.
