Kazimir Severinovich Malevich (1879-1935) was a key figure in the history of the Russian avant-garde. A radical innovator, he not only influenced the destiny of the art of the 20th century, but continues to capture the imagination of our contemporaries. His thoughts and ideas are still relevant today and his principles inspire contemporary work created by artists. This lecture by the leading researcher of the State Tretyakov Gallery, Irina Vakar, will be devoted to the main aspects of Kazimir Malevich’s work: the evolution of his painterly style from Impressionism and Modernism to non-objective art; the significance of Suprematism as the most radical version of geometric abstraction; the architectural models (Archtectons); and the return to figurative art and Post-Suprematism, as well as philosophical views of the artist and some aspects of Malevich’s personality as remembered by his contemporaries.
