Diaghilev as Producer: Scandal as Capital

Alexey Mokrousov
December 3, Saturday
Lecture17:00

Sergei Pavlovich Diaghilev (1872 – 1929) was a Russian art critic, patron, ballet impresario and founder of the Ballets Russes, from which many famous dancers and choreographers would arise. Diaghilev is heralded as embodying the notion of Gesamtkunstwerk to which the early 20th century gave birth. In this two-part lecture, Alexey Mokrousov will explore the important role that Diaghilev’s character played in his success.

Alexey Mokrousov is a literature and art critic and a regular contributor to Kommersant and Vedomosti newspapers, polit.ru, Fashion Theory and Blue Sofa magazines. His major areas of interest and study include Sergey Diaghilev, the art of the 20th century and Western European theater.
