Visible Chain - Invisible Chain

Chien-Chi Chang
September 10, Saturday
Magnum Photos: Meeting Photographers of the Legendary Agency15:00

Limited seating available, prior registration at http://leica-academy.ru/magnum/ is required

Discover the work of Chien-Chi Chang, member of Magnum Photos, as he presents images that deal with "abstract concepts of alienation and connection" and draws on his own deeply divided immigrant experience.

In 2001, Chien-Chi Chang caused a sensation at the Venice Biennale when he exhibited life-size photographs depicting patients of a mental health clinic in chains. The subject of bonds, both physical and emotional, and ties of family and culture feature regularly in Chang’s work. From a published book of photographs unmasking the ruthless trade of brides in Vietnam, to his most ambitious and largest collection, China Town, for which he has spent nearly 20 years documenting the divided lives of Chinese immigrant workers in New York’s Chinatown and their families left behind in Fujian province in China, the chains that bind us are always reflected in his photography.

Organizers:
