20th century art - 20 revolutionaries. Jackson Pollock. Action painting.

After Duchamp, 'value' of each artist can be measured by raising the questions: How far did the artist go in its research of the art nature? What did it add to the art concept? What did art miss until this or that artist entered the art scene? The idea belongs to the originator of conceptionalism Joseph Kosuth, who set it forth in its program text 'Art after Philosophy'. It will be Duchamp's works which will open the first lecture of the series devoted to 20 artists of the 20th century whose art gave rise to one of the three revolutions or counter-revolutions - the roots of contemporary art.

The fifth character is Jackson Pollock (1912 - 1956), one of the inventors of abstract expressionism and the so-called "action painting", who played a significant role in the art development during the 2nd half of the 20th century. Pollock came out as a symbol of radicalism and breakthrough of the rising generation of nonconformist artists in the United States. His works are deemed to be probably the most outstanding art objects of that period and the high point of those days’ art practice.
