Contemporary art fairs: FRIEZE and FIAC 2010

News Report is a new event-lecture format that Garage is launching this Autumn. The first part of the lecture will be an illustrated report from a specific cultural event or happening, and the second will provide an overview of the press coverage of the event.
Since the turn of the century, contemporary art fairs have not only been the sites of exceptionally profitable trade, but have increasingly turned into very important art events, comparable to Biennales. The fairs have become the places to discover new names, interesting trends, meet artists and see special exhibitions. The London fair FRIEZE and the Parisian FIAC are listed in the top five best art fairs in the world. Anastasia Mityushina and Elena Fedotova will explain how these fairs gained such a prestigious status and what trends they reveal this year.
