Alexander Shaburov, one half of the eclectic Blue Noses group, will give an
insightful view into the activities of contemporary Russian performance,
accompanied by a video and photographic display of over ten years of the
group’s work.
Founded in 1999, the Blue Noses group heralded a new phase in the development
of Russian performance through the work of two artists - Vyacheslav Mizin and
Alexander Shaburov. Their work as Blue Noses can be described as working in the
genre of the ‘sketch’, performed by the artists in front of the still or video
camera. These shows are not rehearsed; they are a symbiosis of prepared
concepts and pure improvisation. By using humor and the grotesque, the artists
mimic all the trends of the high art of the last century, from suprematism to
radical performance.
