Artist talk: Anatoly Osmolovsky

August 14, Saturday
Lecture19:00

In the 90's he was one of the most radical figures of the Russian art scene. Working within the traditions of avant-garde, Osmolovsky conveys the image of a rebel and destructor of social norms in the period of political transformation of the country. In 1990-92 Anatoly Osmolovsky was a leader of the ETI movement (Expropriation of the Territory of Art), and in 1993 he organized the Nezeziudik programme.

As a group member he implemented a number of provocative performances - famously an action during which an obscene Russian word “Hui” was formed by the bodies of participants at the Red Square, Moscow. In 1999 the artist together with Ungovernmental Control Comission initiated the political campaign Against Everyone, which aimed to prevent any of the political parties represented on a ballot paper from winning.
