Dead Media and Cyber Culture: Future Has Begun

Olga Shishko
May 5, Wednesday
Lecture & Screening19:00

With the incredible rapid growth in new visual technologies, artists have been challenged to re-think how they can incorporate these new mediums as artistic expression in their work. In her lecture and screening, Olga Shishko will explore how the use of new technology asks the question - whether reality becomes fiction or fiction turns into reality? New media and communication technologies not only pose a challenge to the artists but also carry new points of discussion, which is summed up in a quote by Bruce Sterling - “The more media penetrates our lives the easier it is to lose the trail of information”.

Screening will include video artworks by Nam June Paik; Stelarc; Sergei Kurekhin, Alexei Isaev; Group Jodi; Joachim Blank; Carl Heinz Heron; Jeffrey Shaw; Sergei Shutov and others.

Lecturer

Olga Shishko, art historian, festival and exhibition curator. Director of Media Art Lab, Center for Art and Culture and International “Media Forum”.
