Both left-wing intellectuals and representatives of official and popular
culture are ready to admit nostalgia for the USSR – although the objects of
their nostalgia are fundamentally different. Was the experience of the USSR a
unified utopia or a sequence of successive and competing projects? Or perhaps
our current nostalgia for the Soviet times is the nostalgia for the unrealized
ideas or even idyllic images created by Soviet propaganda? These questions will
be discussed by the artists of “Futurologia” and “Rusian Utopia”.
Join our moderator, Irina Kulik (an art critic and professor at the Institute
of Contemporary Art, Moscow) to engage with these artists in a discussion on
Phantom Nostalgia.
