An Austere Youth

Directed by Abram Room
April 15, Thursday
Film screening19:00

An Austere Youth, is set in an utopian communist reality. The main character is a scientist who lives in a big villa surrounded by his purebred dogs. His wife is intrigued by a young athlete, who spends his time on an almost derelict stadium. The film touches on class, financial, moral and ethical issues.

Abram Room belongs to the first generation of filmmakers of the 1920s, when the following definition prevailed: “The Big Five of the Soviet cinema: S. Eisenstein, V. Pudovkin, L. Kuleshov, D. Vertov, A. Room”. Room created the movement in cinema that would today be termed as hyperrealism.
